Art Talks #6: Debate | "AI in Art: Is it a Creative Partner or Threat to Human Originality?"

At our latest Art Talks Prague meeting, we sat down to talk about a big question: Is AI a great partner for artists, or is it a threat to human creativity?

We had a lively debate. Here is a summary of what people had to say.

The "No" Side: Why AI is a Problem

The people against AI were worried about how we lose the "human touch."

  • We need to be bored: Some argue that when we are constantly busy, we don't have time to dream. When we don't do anything or feel bored, our brains find new ways to create. AI gives us easy answers, so we stop thinking for ourselves.

  • Everything starts to look the same: If everyone uses the same AI tools, all art will begin to look identical. We might lose what makes art unique and special.

  • Less room for real artists: There is a fear that AI will take over the space where real people should be working. It might become harder for human creators to find an audience.

The "Yes" Side: Why AI is a Good Partner

The people in favor of AI saw it more as a helpful tool rather than a replacement.

  • A great partner: AI can help you organize your thoughts. It’s like having a work partner who never gets tired. Some even said that AI gives more honest feedback than a human friend.

  • Focusing on the idea: Artists have always used tools. If the human has the main idea, why not use AI to make it better? You are still the boss; the AI is just helping you finish the work.

What do you think?

We left the café with a lot to think about. It’s a complicated topic!

  • Do you think AI is a tool or a threat?

  • Does it help you create, or does it stop you from being original?

Let me know what you think in the comments, or come talk about it on our Instagram!
